Man who died after Washington Avenue fire identified

The man who died Monday after he was found unconscious and pulled from a smoke-filled central valley apartment Saturday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

He is 66-year-old Charlie Lee Pugh of Las Vegas staff said Tuesday.

Pugh was quickly taken out of the 2113 W. Washington Ave. apartment, near Tonopah Drive, when crews responded to the apartment's small fire about 11 p.m., Las Vegas Fire Department officials said.

First responders provided CPR but he died shortly after being taken to University Medical Center, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said. No one else was injured.

The smoke did more damage than the fire, Szymanski said. Damage is estimated about $5,000, he said. No other apartments were damaged.

The fire remains under investigation.
