McCarran officials remind travelers to check whether flights canceled

Airport officials are warning people traveling out of McCarran International Airport to track their flights as winter storm Jonas in the Northeast has caused thousands of cancellations nationwide.

At least 7,100 flights had been canceled Friday and Saturday, Reuters reported.

About 66 flights in and out of McCarran on Friday and Saturday were canceled, airport spokeswoman Christine Crews said Friday.

Some Sunday flights were canceled, but it wasn't immediately clear how many, spokesman Paul Bobson said Saturday.

Bobson recommends travelers to contact their airlines and to track flights at www.mccarran.com.

Flights to and from cities not hammered by the blizzard also may be affected, Crews said. Passengers traveling anywhere in the United States also should track flying conditions.

The blizzard was expected to last until at least Monday, but Crews said it could take airlines up to a week to catch up.

The airlines have "done a really good job" in notifying their customers, she said, noting that they were offering waivers and accommodations.
