Metro seeks two men in fatal shooting; victim identified

Las Vegas police are trying to identify two men in connection with a homicide in a north valley apartment complex, according to information police released Friday.

The man who died was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office Friday morning.

Las Vegas police found Robert Matthews, 27, wounded on a sidewalk near the Northpointe Apartments, 3333 N. Michael Way, near West Cheyenne Avenue and North Rancho Drive, shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Matthews was suffering from gunshot wounds and was rushed to University Medical Center, where he later died.

The preliminary investigation by homicide detectives indicated the victim and two other people were confronted at the entrance to the complex by two unknown men who arrived in a dark-colored four-door sedan. A brief argument took place, and multiple gunshots were fired. Matthews’ two acquaintances ran away and the two suspects fled in the vehicle.

As of Friday afternoon, police had not identified any suspects..

This was the 66th homicide investigated by Metro in 2014.
