Nevada trooper helps save bikini-clad woman running in I-15 traffic
A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper helped prevent a bikini-clad woman who was running in freeway traffic from being seriously injured during an incident last month, the Nevada Highway Patrol said in a release Friday.
About 10:40 a.m. June 25, the highway patrol received numerous calls regarding a pedestrian in traffic on Interstate 15 near Sahara Avenue, according to a news release. The highway patrol also released a video of the incident.
“A Trooper located the female subject in the left shoulder of northbound I-15 and attempted to make contact with her,” according to an NHP news release.
The highway patrol said the responding trooper, David Becker, positioned his vehicle to protect the pedestrian. In video footage sent from NHP, the woman appears to approach the vehicle, but then runs away.
The woman was “visibly distraught” and ran across southbound travel lanes, the highway patrol said. The trooper ran after the woman and reached her before she was struck by a vehicle, the NHP said.
“If it was not for the Trooper’s quick reaction, and willingness to risk his own safety to save the distraught female, she would have likely been struck by oncoming traffic,” the release said.
The woman was then taken to University Medical Center for evaluation and was later released.
No vehicles were involved in the incident, NHP trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.
