One person hospitalized after moped, school bus crash

One person is in critical condition after a scooter collided with a Clark County school bus in the southwest Las Vegas Valley on Monday morning.

It happened about 7:40 a.m., according to Melinda Malone, a spokeswoman for Clark County School District. The bus was headed to Sawyer Middle School with about 40 students on board. Students on the bus were not hurt.

The moped driver, Christopher Voutsinas, 20, was headed east on Flamingo Road when he failed to stop at a red light on Torrey Pines Road, according to a Las Vegas police report. The bus, travelling south on Torrey Pines, had a green light and struck the left side of the scooter. Voutsinas, who wore a helmet, was ejected. He was taken to University Medical Center where he remained in serious condition Monday night.

The Torrey Pines and Flamingo intersection was closed to traffic while police investigated.
