Passenger dies when car crashes into wall

A single-car crash left a 23-year-old Henderson man dead early Saturday morning, police said.

Brian Jared Peters was a passenger in the BMW 550i driven by Arnold Cheung, 24, of Henderson. Cheung was driving eastbound on Pebble Road approaching Carnegie Street at a high rate of speed around 2:20 a.m. when he failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a block wall, according to Henderson police.

Cheung and Peters were trapped in the crushed vehicle. Cheung was removed from the car and taken to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Unit for treatment.

Peters died at the scene. The Clark County coroner’s office said he died of multiple blunt force injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated that speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash. Blood was drawn from Cheung at the hospital for testing, according to police.

He faces a DUI with death charge if his blood alcohol content is over the legal limit.

The intersection was closed for about four hours Saturday morning.

The man’s death was the fourth traffic-related fatality in Henderson this year.
