Report details marijuana grow bust, arrest

Las Vegas and Henderson police and the Drug Enforcement Administration agents found a full-functioning marijuana lab when they searched and dismantled a southwest valley house Thursday, according to an arrest report.

The joint task force found the grow house in the 6200 block of West Levi Avenue, near South Jones Boulevard and Cactus Avenue, after getting an anonymous tip, Las Vegas police said.

Robert Hoier, 35, of Las Vegas, was leaving the residence when the task force arrested him.

When they entered the two-story home, the task force said they discovered Hoier was growing marijuana in the upstairs rooms. They found 99 plants and growing equipment such as circulation fans, lamps and water pumps, police said.

In the master bedroom closet, the task force found various sandwich bags and baby-food jars filled with marijuana, police said. In the downstairs area, investigators found two large mason jars with pot as well as hash and THC oil in them.

Metro Lt. Laz Chavez on Thursday said that the marijuana was valued at about $200,000.

Hoier told investigators that he lived with his girlfriend and that he was renting the house. He said that he is a medical marijuana card carrier and that he smoked pot to combat insomnia and knee pain, police said.

Hoier told investigators he paid Dr. Reefer $300 to get a waiver for 49 plants and two pounds of processed marijuana, the report said.

Dr. Reefer is a medical marijuana referral service that was raided in 2010 after undercover police officers realized it also served as a dispensary.

Nevada law allows medical marijuana users to grow 12 plants and have 2.5 ounces of processed material.

Hoier, who was booked in the Clark County Detention Center, faces one count each of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and production of marijuana in the case, police said.
