Teen girl recovering, man still on life support after Summerlin home invasion

The teen girl who was shot during a home invasion in Summerlin early Wednesday is recovering at University Medical Center, her mother Janeen Hinden, 52, said Thursday afternoon.

The daughter, also named Janeen Hinden, was shot in the femoral artery during the 10284 Garden Glen Lane home invasion, which police said happened at 4:40 a.m. and was “targeted” and “not random.” The girl is a Palo Verde High School student, according to Clark County School District officials.

“They just took her off her ventilator this morning,” her mother said. “She’s breathing on her own.”

The mother added that the teen was alert but not talking much, though the girl did ask how her mother’s fiance, Stephen Picardi, was doing. He was also shot during the invasion.

“My fiance is not doing as well as we’d like him to,” the mother said.

Picardi was still on life support and due to undergo another surgery on his leg Friday.

Police said the shooting was not random “based on interviews with everyone involved,” Metro spokesman officer Michael Rodriguez said. Though no suspect names or descriptions were released, the mother said police told her they were close to making an arrest.

Detectives on the case said a handgun found Wednesday morning in The Gardens Park around the corner from the gated Rosemont neighborhood home — near South Hualapai Way and West Twain Avenue — may be related to the invasion.

Since the shooting, friends of the daughter took to social media to support her and Picardi’s recovery.

“Sending all my love to you and your family,” one read.
