Looting baboons raid South African apartment

A group of determined baboons recently were caught burglarizing a South African apartment after prying open a window to get inside.

Photographer Cyril Ruoso, 43, said he saw one chacma baboon open the front window of the Cape Town apartment with his mouth, allowing about 10 more of the animals to enter.

The baboons made a mess of the third-floor apartment and apparently liked some of the homeowners’ belongings enough to take them home.

“I am quite used to working with monkeys but I was amazed,” he told Metro. “When they came out with a giant teddy bear, I was even more astonished.”

The baboons, which are common enough in South Africa that monitoring teams are used to keep them at bay, made off with food, bedsheets and curtains along with the giant teddy bear, according to the Daily Record.
