Man sentenced to life for fatal shooting

Calvin Kirklin, the 21-year-old Las Vegas man charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old mother, was sentenced this morning to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years.

Blanca Gonzalez was driving home from Wal-Mart with her two children when a shot was fired from inside another vehicle near the intersection of Charleston and Nellis boulevards. Kirklin's attorney called the incident a "tragic accident" and said Kirklin's weapon went off unintentionally. "Sometimes I agree in second chances, but my mom, being the victim, where was her second chance?" said Gonzalez's son, Christian Basurto, who was in the vehicle when his mother was shot and killed.
