Motorcycle club members arrested in Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Eight Vagos motorcycle club members were arrested early Wednesday during a law enforcement sweep in western Arizona.

The Department of Public Safety said "Operation Sand Castle," conducted by more than 100 officers from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, led to the arrests of five men wanted in connection with a Colorado River beach brawl in Bullhead City in July. Three other alleged Vagos members not involved in the fight were arrested on drug or weapons offenses. Ten search warrants were served in the sweep.

Bullhead City police spokeswoman Emily Montague said the investigation of the July 18 melee at Rio Lomas Beach was impeded because the 25 civilian witnesses and victims of the brawl were terrified of the bikers and afraid to provide information. She said several people were badly beaten in the skirmish, but that it's not clear what sparked the violence.

Wednesday's arrests occurred in Mohave Valley, Bullhead City, Golden Valley and Lake Havasu City.

The five Vagos alleged to have been involved in the beach brawl were identified as Dale Warren Smith, Shawn Patrick Bailey, Shawn Lee Muncy, Gabriel Timothy Nader Jr. and Roger George Keller III.

The other three who also were booked into the Mohave County jail in Kingman were identified as Jeffrey Daniel Woods, Nick Bernard Prano and Daniel Michael MacDonald.
