Laughlin tap water boil order lifted

Laughlin residents and resorts no longer have to boil their water, the Las Vegas Valley Water District said Tuesday.

A mandatory boil order had been in place since Saturday, after flashing flooding pushed excessive amounts of dirt and mud into the town‘s drinking water source: the Colorado River near the Davis Dam. Testing showed particulate levels five to seven times what is allowed under drinking water standards.

Businesses and residents had been asked to limit water use, by shutting off sprinklers and irrigation systems. Bottled water was being handed out at Laughlin‘s Regional Government Center.

Now, officials say, tap water is safe. Laughlin is part of the Big Bend Water District, which is operated by the Las Vegas Valley Water District.

The districts said residents can flush their home plumbing systems if they want to take an extra precaution. To do that, run all cold water taps for three minutes.
