Southbound I-15 near Mesquite reopens

Interstate 15 near Mesquite has reopened after a highway patrol chase that started in Utah closed it earlier in the day.

The investigation closed north and southbound lanes for nearly an hour Thursday, officials say.

Utah Highway Patrol had been chasing a suspected bank robber, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said. The vehicle stopped about 15 miles outside of Mesquite at about 4:30 p.m. and the female driver, believed to be vehicle’s only occupant, barricaded herself inside.

The woman gave herself up peacefully just after 6 p.m.

The woman would likely first be booked at the Mesquite Police Department before being taken back to Utah, Hixson said, and the FBI would be involved since she was suspected of a federal crime.

Northbound lanes reopened at about 6:15 p.m., and southbound lanes were to follow in the next 15 minutes, Hixson said.
