Northwestern Arizona man held in shooting death of neighbor

KINGMAN, Ariz. — One man was killed and another jailed in a shooting in the northwest Arizona community of Golden Valley on Monday.

Mohave County sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:48 p.m. when a neighbor reported gunfire outside a home in the 2000 block of South Cheri Lane.

Agency spokeswoman Trish Carter said Jeffrey Todd Allen, 44, was found dead in the driveway of the property. She said Louis Manuel Torres, 61, was taken into custody in the street.

A .44-magnum handgun that was used in the shooting was removed from Torres’ waistband, she said. Detectives believe the roommates had been drinking when an argument evolved into an altercation.

Allen left at one point but was shot by Torres as he returned, Carter said. She said Allen died of a gunshot wound to the neck.

Torres was arrested on manslaughter and aggravated assault charges.
