One dead following standoff at I-15

A man was shot and killed by SWAT after Las Vegas police said he pointed a gun at them near the Jean Airport Sunday morning.

Metro said employees from a sky diving company were clearing space for a drop zone four miles south of Jean about 9 a.m. when they noticed an RV in the drop zone. When the employees made contact with a man in the RV, he pointed a handgun at them and threatened to kill them, according to Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy.

The employees then left and called police. When the first officer arrived on scene, the suspect pulled a long gun on him, forcing the officer to retreat, McCarthy said.

SWAT then arrived and found the man barricaded inside the RV, police said. As SWAT set up a perimeter around the area, the man exited the RV and pointed a long gun at SWAT officers, McCarthy said.

Officers then shot the suspect, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is Metro’s fourth officer-involved shooting this year.
