A man accused of raping two young girls was arrested earlier this month, and Las Vegas police are now urging families of other possible victims to come forward.
Celso Castaneda, 34, was arrested July 7 and charged with eight counts of sexual assault of a victim younger than 14, jail records show. He is being held at the Clark County Detention Center in lieu of $120,000 bail.
According to his arrest report, Castaneda is accused of sexually assaulting two female relatives in a maintenance office at the apartment complex where he works and resides.
The alleged abuse began in May 2009 and continued at least until this May, police said.
The report detailed the investigation involving a 10-year-old girl whose statements to police accounted for five of the eight assault charges. Statements made to police by the other victim, which were not available Tuesday, resulted in three charges.
The 10-year-old girl told police all the assaults took place in the maintenance office at the South Valley Apartments at 10250 Spencer St., near St. Rose Parkway in the southeast part of the valley. The girl was able to accurately describe Castaneda’s office, the report said. She also told police she understood the difference between telling the truth and lying, and was able to identify “private parts” on a doll.
After at least one of the assaults, Castaneda told her if she told anyone what happened some of their relatives would be “hurt,” the report said.
When police made contact with Castaneda at his apartment and advised him of the allegations, the report said detectives observed “his breathing to increase and goose bumps appeared on his arms.”
Castaneda did not answer detectives’ questions and asked to speak with a lawyer, the report said.
Police advise that Castaneda is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weights 185 pounds. Although the crimes for which he’s charged happened at one apartment complex, police believe he has also worked at others throughout the valley.
