The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, were a chilling reminder that America has enemies seeking to cause bloodshed on these shores. The raw emotion of the days and months after the attacks soon gave way to the day-to-day challenges of protecting the nation against another attack.
So far, America has not been revisited by the horrors of 9/11. But the attacks of that day have made a substantial impact on the nation's mind-set and mechanisms of self-protection.
