Server accused of forging anti-gay note loses job

A New Jersey waitress who accused a family of leaving an anti-gay note on their receipt is no longer working at the bistro where the incident took place.

Dayna Morales said in November that she had served a family at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., and received a hateful, anti-gay note instead of a tip. She posted a photo on Facebook of the receipt on which the note was written.

“I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life,” the receipt said.

After the Facebook post was shared thousands of times and picked up by local and national media, the family in question came forward to say they had left a tip, not a note.

The family, who wished to remain anonymous out of concern for their safety, provided media outlets with a copy of what they said was a credit card statement showing they had been charged $111.55 for the meal. The receipt in the photo posted by Morales showed a total of $93.55.

The bistro first suspended Morales while the incident was investigated, and posted on Facebook on Saturday that Morales would no longer be working there.

“The results of that investigation are inconclusive as to exactly what happened between Ms. Morales and the customers that night,” the statement read in part. “However, in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant.”

After Morales first posted her story, donations came from around the world. At least three people told NBC New York their PayPal donations had been refunded over the weekend, though.
