Shooter shoots man then kills self in northwestern Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting near a Lake Havasu City school Friday.

Officers responded to a 911 call saying David Schwan, 56, of lake Havasu City was shooting several rounds at a residence in the 1300 block of Wapati Drive.

Police Sgt. Troy Stirling said the shooting occurred about 7:30 a.m., before Oro Grande Elementary School was in session. Police notified school administrators of the shooting, and they implemented a “soft shutdown” of the school

Schwan knew a family living in the duplex and was knocking angrily on their front door, he said. A 41-year-old man confronted Schwan, who grabbed a gun and shot him before firing many more rounds into the duplex, he said. Three people, including a 5-year-old child, were home at the time, but they were not hit by any gunfire.

Stirling said Schwan fired as many as 20 rounds before shooting and killing himself in the driveway of the apartment complex.

The wounded person was flown to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was in critical condition.
