Southern Nevada students can apply for political TV show

Southern Nevada high school students are invited to apply to participate in a series of special Nevada NewsMakers television programs to discuss politics and current affairs.

The annual Teen Edition of the statewide public and political affairs program hosted by Sam Shad tapes on Dec. 19 at the KRNV Channel 4 television station in Reno. The program consists of three pundit panels of 11th- and 12th-graders selected from around the state.

Students selected from Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson will have all of their expenses paid by Nevada NewsMakers and its sponsors. A teacher chaperone will accompany the Southern Nevada students.

Participating students will get to see a taping of a regular pundit panel that is part of the four-day-a-week program. Then they will discuss the issues of the day. After the taping, the students will get a tour of News 4 and be escorted to a free lunch at the Eldorado Hotel Casino in Reno.

The Teen Edition programs will run across the state starting Christmas Day, and will be seen in Las Vegas on KSNV Channel 3 and Cox Cable Channel 123.

For applications or more information contact Sam Shad at 775-722-2442 or by email at sam@shad.reno.nv.us.
