Streets reopen after pool chemicals spill in crash

A pool chemical spill closed roads near the Las Vegas Beltway on the southwest side of the valley Friday morning, causing traffic delays.

Las Vegas police responded to Tropicana Avenue and El Capitan Way just after 8 a.m.

A pool maintenance truck and a taxi had crashed, leaving chlorine chemicals spilled on the road, Lt. Sasha Larkin said.

The taxi driver was transported to a valley hospital with non life-threatening injuries from the crash.

El Capitan Way between Tropicana Avenue and Aubsburg Lane remained closed until after 11 a.m.

Larkin said the chemical spill wasn’t major, but protocol calls for the fire department to do a thorough cleaning of the area.

“It looks a lot worse than it is,” she said.
