The suspect involved in Tuesday afternoon's "suspicious device" incident that closed portions of Decatur Boulevard and Sahara Avenue was wanted in North Las Vegas on felony drug and weapon charges, police said.
Todd Smith, 40, had bench warrants for possession of methamphetamine and ex-felon in possession of a firearm, authorities said Wednesday.
Smith was being held at the North Las Vegas Detention Center on the charges.
Las Vegas police spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said Smith eventually will be transferred to the county jail and charged with possessing an explosive device in a public place, a felony.
Police have not disclosed what was in Smith's truck, but said it was a "credible" explosive device fashioned from fireworks. Officers discovered the material after a routine traffic stop.
About 20 businesses were evacuated for several hours as ARMOR investigated with robots and eventually "rendered it safe" at 11:31 a.m., after bystanders in the area heard a small explosion.
