Three men plead guilty, sentenced to prison for child porn

Three northern Nevadan men were sentenced this week to prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges, Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said Tuesday.

Matthew Kevin Cowee, 41, of Sparks, and Jarrod Allen Pounds, 28, of Gardnerville, were sentenced to 97 to 110 months, and a third man, Byron Trent Davis, 48, of Reno, was sentenced to 63 months, officials said.

“As these cases demonstrate, federal and local law enforcement will work together to put child predators behind bars,” Bogden said. “These lengthy prison sentences should serve as a warning to other child predators. We are looking for you, and we will find you, arrest you and ensure that you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Cowee pleaded guilty in August to receiving child pornography. He had more than 15,000 images and 200 videos containing child pornography on his computer and hard drives, officials said.

Pounds, who pleaded guilty in September, was found to have about 7,500 images and 40 videos of child pornography.

Davis used the Internet to view and obtain child pornography and was found to have about 100 videos and 100 images in his possession, officials said.

The images and videos found in the men’s possessions contained “prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including sadistic and masochistic conduct,” officials said in a release Tuesday.

Cowee and Pounds will be placed on lifetime supervision after their prison sentences are served, while Davis will be placed on supervision for 15 years after his release, officials said. All three will have to register as convicted sex offenders.
