HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — About 300 people attended a candlelight vigil at the Hendersonville home where an 11-year-old girl was accidentally shot to death by her father.

The Tennessean reports that family, friends and neighbors of 11-year-old Timea Batts attended Tuesday night’s vigil following Monday’s shooting.

According to an arrest affidavit, the father, Timothy Batts, told police he shot his daughter thinking she was an intruder. The girl later died at the hospital.

Vigil attendees stressed during the event that the shooting was accidental. Family member Gwendolyn Childress says Timothy Batts was a good father despite the situation. Pastor Adam French told attendees that Timea Batts loved her father, who moved the family to Hendersonville in search of a better life.

Timothy Batts has been charged in the shooting. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
