Woman dies after being pinned between vehicle, rock at Valley of Fire

A woman died in Valley of Fire State Park after she was pinned between an SUV and a rock Thursday morning.

The 72-year-old woman parked her 2007 Ford Expedition and exited the vehicle about 11:30 a.m, Las Vegas police said. The Expedition then began to roll forward, and the woman ran to the driver’s side door and attempted to re-enter the vehicle.

The left side of the vehicle impacted a rock formation and the woman was pinned between the rock and the Expedition, police said.

Medical personnel responded to the scene but found the woman dead when they arrived, police said.

This is the 17th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014. The park is about 54 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
