Woman killed in fluke Valley of Fire State Park accident identified

The Las Vegas woman killed when she was pinned between her SUV and a rock in Valley of Fire State Park on Thursday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Charlene Cruze, 72.

Cruz had exited her 2007 Ford Expedition around 11:30 a.m. on March 6 when the vehicle began rolling forward, according to Las Vegas police. She tried to re-enter the vehicle from the driver’s-side door, but the left side of the vehicle hit a rock formation and pinned her between the rock and the SUV, police said.

Medical personnel found Cruze dead at the scene.

She died from mechanical asphyxia, according to the coroner’s office.
