Hollywood couple has Vegas night out

Rising Hollywood stars Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds had the celebrity news industry on high alert when they showed up in Las Vegas for a romantic weekend.

With reports that their 5-month-old relationship is heating up, Johansson, 22, and Reynolds, 30, were spotted at Saturday's 10:30 p.m. performance of "Zumanity," Cirque du Soleil's sexy show at New York-New York.

A week ago, they raised eyebrows with a visit to Reynolds' hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, where his parents live.

Johansson, named the sexiest woman in the world by FHM magazine in 2006, is filming "He's Just Not That Into You." Reynolds, who played an FBI agent in "Smokin' Aces," broke up with Alanis Morissette in February after a long engagement.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Las Vegas court information officer Michael Sommermeyer put the O.J. Simpson media frenzy into perspective: He said the August 2006 arrest of fugitive church leader Warren Jeffs near Las Vegas resulted in three TV satellite trucks joining the coverage. Sommermeyer counted 17 satellite trucks at Simpson's bail hearing last week. "I was contacted by 60-some media outlets and Judge Nancy Oesterle said she had over 100." Oesterle, a Las Vegas Justice Court judge, and Sommermeyer received dozens of compliments for arranging a media briefing on the case. ...

Good grief! In Sunday's item about banker E. Parry Thomas, I mistakenly inserted the word "late" in front of Jack Binion's name. Jack, 72, is alive, well, and was, until recently, Steve Wynn's point man in Macao. It was Jack's brother, Ted, whose death on Sept. 17, 1998, led to the high-profile court case involving Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish. Sincere apologies to all for the error.
