Ripa, family visit wedding chapel

Kelly Ripa and hubby Mark Consuelos showed their kids a family landmark on the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday.

They took a tour of the Chapel of the Bells, 2233 Las Vegas Boulevard South, where Mommy and Daddy got married on May 1,1996.

A year ago on their Las Vegas visit for "Live with Regis and Kelly!" Ripa and Consuelos returned to the chapel for the first time since their wedding.

This time they brought the kids: Michael Joseph, Lola Grace, and Joaquin Antonio.

Ripa and Consuelos eloped to Las Vegas during a break in filming the soap opera "All My Children."

They recalled details of their runaway wedding during a video segment last year at the Encore Theater, where they are taping four shows starting Sunday.

"We didn't have cake because he was so cheap, I swear," said Ripa, who wore her wedding dress on stage during the video package.

They spent their honeymoon night in room 413 at The Mirage, with a view of the volcano.

After Thursday's stop at the Chapel of the Bells, they headed off to see relatives, including members of Consuelos' family who live here.

On Friday, they headed for the Grand Canyon, where Consuelos tweeted "love the southwest" on his Twitter site.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Excalibur headliner Kevin Burke, the star of "Defending the Caveman," is returning as host of NASCAR's Chasers for Charity Fanfest on Wednesday in the Neon Garage at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He will host the "Family Feud"-style game show with 12 Chase drivers. The event is free. ...

Former Las Vegas headliner Bobby Slayton is returning to town for a February/March engagement tied to Hooters' fifth anniversary. He recently joined Twitter and be forewarned, it's, umm, unfiltered, like his show. ...

In Wednesday's column, I used the phrase "Blackhawks down" to describe a Chicago Blackhawks celebration here last weekend. A reader thought this was a poor choice of words because service members died in the 1993 incident in Somalia, which was the subject of a book and movie. I meant no disrespect to our heroic soldiers by my poor phrasing.

SIGHTINGS

Victoria Beckham, with her three children and parents at "Love" (Mirage) on Friday. ... U.S. Sen. John Ensign, having lunch Friday at Vintner Grill in Summerlin.
