We talked to G-Eazy about his upcoming Drai’s residency — EXCLUSIVE

The hip hop gods are looking down on Las Vegas with favor, because they have blessed us with potentially eight opportunities to see G-Eazy through the end of the year.

He is now considered a resident artist at Drais Nightclub, and he’ll perform there about once a month.

“It’s an honor to have a place to call home on the Las Vegas Strip,” the Bay Area rapper said. “I mean, as an entertainer, that’s a high benchmark to hit in your career. On top of that, Drai’s is the coolest spot. They’re the most in touch with what’s relevant, especially in hip hop.”

Just over a year ago, G-Eazy stood on the stage atop The Cromwell for the first time.

“It was a movie,” he said of the performance. “It’s been that way ever since. I’ve never had a night that was less than crazy at Drai’s. It’s always hella wild.”

As someone who’s seen the towering rapper perform in black on black with hair slicked back on multiple occasions over the past couple of years, I can attest to this wildness.

“Me, Myself & I” — you know, that song you hear at least three times during your commute because it’s so popular — it’s his latest hit, but certainly not his only.

G-Eazy’s 2014 album, “These Things Happen,” is 16 tracks of pure ecstasy. It features appearances by E-40, A$AP Ferg and the melodic notes of Devon Baldwin.

If you’re familiar, get to Drai’s. If you’re not, get familiar, then get to Drai’s.

“I always keep some older records in my set for the fans that have been down since day one. It’s always clutch to show them you haven’t forgotten where you came from,” he said. “But I’m always stoked to perform new s—- too and see how the crowd reacts.”

Those crowds are growing, and getting to watch the rapper perform in a setting as intimate as Drai’s is nothing short of majestic.

“The crowds have gotten bigger and bigger as times gone on,” he said. “It always amazes me how they come through and pack it out and show love every time, it’s a blessing.”

It’s a blessing for us, too, G-Eazy.

Coming off of a European tour, the rapper will return to his home at Drai’s on Sunday, and he’s happy to be back.

“Europe has a different kind of energy,” he said. “The shows are always special. I think some of it comes from the distance we’ve traveled to be there. Everyone at the show is aware of that and that it’s kind of rare for us to be out there. But it always feels good to get back home to the states though.”

And I think we can all agree with him: “No city rages like Vegas does. Period.”
