LETTERS: Wright brothers greater than Hyperloop

Gov. Brian Sandoval is way off with his suggestion that the first test run of a Hyperloop pod at Apex would be analogous to the first powered flight of the Wright brothers in 1903 (“Governor shows zeal for being first Nevada Hyperloop passenger,” Saturday Review-Journal). The Wright brothers independently conducted all their research and development; designed, built and modified their aircraft; and tested at facilities they built and maintained in North Carolina, while maintaining their businesses and supporting their family.

The Wright brothers never got financial incentives from either the governor of Ohio (their home state) or the governor of North Carolina, or from the federal government. Hyperloop received unanimous approval of a $10 million incentive package from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development for a proposed test track of a technology that is still speculative. That’s hardly analogous.

Gas Prices

Using the Gas Buddy app, you can check the price for a gallon of gas and see that it’s much higher in Las Vegas than in many neighboring states. How is that? I believe it’s because there is collusion on gas and diesel prices in the region. The industry has singled out Las Vegas as a sacrificial lamb, enriching itself at our expense.

It is time for an investigation into the collusion and price-fixing Las Vegas drivers have to bear.

Destroying Trump

I cannot remember a time when the Republican Party spent so much time and money to destroy its presidential front-runner. Republicans have lied, spread rumors, misrepresented and attacked Donald Trump, with some even saying they would vote for Hillary Clinton before Mr. Trump.

Establishment Republicans don’t care if Mrs. Clinton wins, because all those in the establishment — both Republicans and Democrats — are global socialists. Standing in their way are the American people, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and our Judeo-Christian traditions.

Since global socialists can’t eliminate every Christian constitutionalist, they are forced to try to change demographics through illegal immigration and allowing more refugees, in order to gain complete control. If that doesn’t work, they will plunge us into civil war.

Donald Trump might just be our only chance to save the world from a new Dark Age.

Interrogating terrorists

In order to get information from terrorists, Donald Trump has said we should waterboard them and use enhanced interrogation. Hillary Clinton says waterboarding does not work. If that’s true, then how about using whatever does work to get information from terrorists, in order to save innocent lives?

It seems the Obama administration and its supporters are more interested in being politically correct than saving lives.

Brussels attacks

In the wake of the horrible terrorist attack in Brussels, I hope it serves as an important reminder that the United States and the rest of the world is not at war with the religion of Islam. What we’re all at war with is a terrorist organization and network that will kill innocent people of all races and religions, opposing anyone who stands in the way of accomplishing those goals.

ISIS misappropriation

I am disturbed that media outlets, including the Review-Journal, continue to identify a terrorist group as ISIS. Isis was an Egyptian goddess. A group of cult serial killers should not be able to identify itself with gods and be supported in its mission by the media.

LETTER: Biden ignores the Supreme Court on student loans

Biden is constantly harping on how Trump is a threat to democracy and will be a dictator, eliminating our freedoms. It is Biden, however, who has proven himself the dictator who is threatening democracy.

LETTER: More on 1968

As a cop who was at not only at the 1968 Democratic convention at the Conrad Hilton on Michigan Avenue, but also the Chicago arson fires on the west side, I feel there were many reasons why the city was a tinderbox.

LETTER: Clark County cracks down on street vendors

A lot of us walk or jog in the summer nights when it cools down. The juice vendor was a wonderful break before starting the return half of our exercise. Alas, never more.
