Trump protesters are way out of line
May 30, 2016 - 8:00 pm
While changing channels I happened to run into coverage of protesters at the Donald Trump rally. I am not a Trump supporter, but I was appalled to see what was happening in Anaheim and Albuquerque.
Whether you agree with Donald Trump is not the issue. The issue is the total disrespect of the fundamental rights of people to express their beliefs under the First Amendment. If you disagree with Mr. Trump, express it at the polls. If you are protesting his opinions, remember that he has every right to speak his mind.
Why should this nation accept individuals who are unwilling and unable to follow the letter of the law to become citizens of America? They, as I did at one point, come from elsewhere. If they are against this man’s arguments — which they have a right to be — they can either accept our hospitality and acclimate themselves to this nation’s laws or trek back to their native lands.
Here, no one has the right to destroy property and attack police officers, whether flying their national colors or Old Glory.

Rash decision
Can someone explain how a Trump appointee, six weeks on the job, can be fired from his position on the word of the chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, Michael McDonald (“Sources: Trump fires his political director,” Thursday Review-Journal)?
Maybe Mr. Trump should do some research before making rash decisions. The Nevada Republican Party has been in chaos for years and Mr. McDonald has been a questionable leader.

We’ve been warned
I was born and lived in Los Angeles for 72 years before moving to Las Vegas. I remember both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Raiders and attending some of their games.
When the Raiders arrived, Los Angeles got Al Davis. He was first for Al Davis, next the Raiders and then Los Angeles. The fans were somewhere else in the pecking order. When he left Los Angeles, he was a lot wealthier than when he arrived.
There were lawsuits — many of them. Al Davis sued the NFL and the city of Los Angeles, just to mention a few.
Las Vegas, be careful what you wish for.

Common sense
In response to Steve Sebelius’s Wednesday column, “We don’t need secrecy in the Bundy trial”:
Common sense would say all property inside a state’s borders should be controlled by that state. Otherwise, what’s the point of having those borders? If a state can’t handle the property within its borders, then the borders should reflect that federally owned land is federal territory, not state land.
The whole reason for our country’s existence is that the federal government should not own hardly anything. Otherwise we’re just another version of the same old kingdom, empire or dictatorship common throughout history.
Common sense would say that if there are state borders the land inside those borders should be controlled by the state, not the federal government.
