According to a recent study, more than 60 percent of Americans are considered "obese." I won't go into technical details about what is considered large, Body Mass Indexes and the like. That would be a whole other article. With well more than half of the American population being on the larger side of the physical spectrum, it makes me wonder: How many large singles are floating around in cyberspace?
While I don't know the exact number of plus-sized singles that actually exist out there, I can personally attest to feeling like you are the ONLY chubby person searching for love online. Over the years, I've tried lots of personals sites with limited results. I always wondered if the responses to my ads were few and far between due to my size. Can people really be that picky? I'm smart. I'm funny. I have all my teeth!
Up until two years ago, I discovered a whole online community devoted to large men and women and the people that adore them. To this chubby, single girl it was a dream come true. A whole slew of people just like me! I immediately learned the accompanying acronyms used within the community. As others had once taught me, I shall now teach you:
BBW - Big Beautiful Woman (alt. version is SSBBW - Super-Sized Big Beautiful Woman) BHM - Big Handsome Man FA - Fat Admirer
Once I immersed myself in this new culture, I became aware of an abundance of BBW- and BHM-centric activities: conventions, travel excursions, dance clubs and YES!, online personals sites! I really felt like here I was appreciated more as a whole person (body and brains) than being called out at first base due to the size of my enormous butt. "Fat" was suddenly not a bad word anymore. For one of the first times in my life I had guys online responding to my ads first. I was told I was "hot"; I wasn't being ignored. It was good to be large and in charge.
