Donald Trump meets with Hispanic, business leaders at ‘private’ event in Las Vegas
August 26, 2016 - 7:53 pm
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump held a meeting with Hispanic leaders and small business owners on the Las Vegas Strip on Friday afternoon, despite earlier this week canceling a local rally scheduled for the same day.
The meeting began shortly after 2 p.m. at the Trump International Hotel.
“It was very productive and Mr. Trump is very invested in the Hispanic community out here,” said Charles Munoz, Nevada state director of Trump’s campaign.
Munoz declined to disclose further details about the meeting, including its length and who attended, saying it was a “private, off-the-record” event.
A photo of the meeting, posted to Twitter by Trump senior advisor Dan Scavino Jr., appears to show Trump seated with at least 19 people around conference tables.
Trump was scheduled to host a dinner Friday evening at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe hotel and casino. Media were not invited to the event.
The Trump campaign did not alert local media the New York businessman was coming to Las Vegas.
A McCarran International Airport spokesperson confirmed that a “very large” private aircraft with the name “Trump” emblazoned on its side landed at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
On Monday, the Trump campaign cancelled a rally scheduled for Friday afternoon at the South Point Arena. No reason for the cancellation was given.
A grand opening for the Trump-Pence Nevada Headquarters in Las Vegas is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at 1110 Palms Airport Drive, Suite 120. Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will be in attendance.
