Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce endorses Heck in bid for Senate

The Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday endorsed U.S. Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., in his bid for the U.S. Senate.

It was the chamber’s first endorsement of a federal election candidate since the group began operating in 1986, President Sonny Vinuya said.

Vinuya said the chamber, which has close to 600 members. endorsed Heck because he is a former small-business owner who understands chamber members’ needs. Heck has met with the chamber quarterly for at least two years.

“We wanted to make sure the businesses that belong to the chamber have a voice,” Vinuya said. “He keeps his word. That is very, very important to us.”

Speaking at Lee’s Korean BBQ, Heck said he was also regularly meeting with the Urban and Latin chambers of commerce.

“If we don’t empower our small-business owners, our state and our nation will never get back on track and fully recover from this recession,” he said.
