A handful of Nevadans are scheduled to speak at next week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
They include longtime U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, congressional candidate and state Sen. Ruben Kihuen, state Sen. Pat Spearman, DREAMer Astrid Silva and two other Nevada residents, Karla Ortiz and her mother Francisca Ortiz.
“It’s an incredible privilege to be asked to speak, and I look forward to sharing my experiences as an immigrant, the values my hard-working parents instilled in me, and my vision for a more inclusive America,” said Kihuen, who picked up the official endorsement of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton while she stumped in Las Vegas earlier this week.
According to the DNC website, Francisca Ortiz is an undocumented immigrant residing in Nevada who lives “in fear of deportation.” Clinton met the Ortizes while campaigning in Nevada and they were featured in a Clinton ad, according to the site.
