Henderson extends city attorney’s contract, OKs fire station for Inspirada community

Josh Reid will continue as Henderson’s city attorney for two more years.

City Council on Tuesday approved in a 4-0 vote a second amended employment agreement with Reid, which will be in effect through Aug. 31, 2018, and includes an annual base salary increase of 2.5 percent for 2016 and each subsequent year covered by the contract.

“Josh (Reid) has done an excellent job as city attorney,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “We want to keep him working on behalf of us and the city. He has saved the city nearly $6 million in outside attorney fees. That is no small feat.”

Reid’s current base salary is $209,948. His extended employment agreement also includes a one-time lump-sum bonus payment of 2.5 percent of his base salary — $5,248 — and a $650-per-month vehicle allowance.

According to the agenda, city council desired to “provide inducement” for Reid to remain in his position with the extended agreement. Reid was first employed by the city on Dec. 20, 2011.

Councilman Sam Bateman was not present for the vote.

In other business, the council approved a new fire station for the master-planned Inspirada community.

The council awarded the $5.8 million construction contract to CORE Construction Services of Nevada and approved the total project budget of $7.9 million.

A developer agreement between the city and Inspirada Builders LLC provided $5.5 million of the total project budget. The remaining $2.4 million comes from the city’s land fund account.

The new station will be staffed by 18 firefighters.

City spokeswoman Kim Becker said Inspirada is now served by Fire Station 98, at 891 Coronado Center Drive.

Construction will start on 3.4 acres of the Inspirada development next month; the project’s completion is slated for October 2017.
