Couple praises Mountain Falls

Larry and Kathryn Puchala's love affair with Southern Nevada began 35 years ago, the first time they escaped their home in snowy Buffalo, N.Y., for a sunshine-filled visit. The couple said they feel like they're on a permanent vacation now that they're retired and live at William Lyon Homes' Tramonto at Mountain Falls in Pahrump. The master-planned golf community by William Lyon Homes is located 45 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

"We fell in love with this area nearly four decades ago, pursued our careers in Buffalo and vacationed here as frequently as possible. Now we're here to stay," said Larry Puchala, a retired railroad worker who enjoys blackjack. Kathryn is a retired school librarian.

"This home was a real bargain and I no longer have a snow shovel collection. I couldn't ask for more," he said.

After considering several floor plans, the couple decided on Tramonto's Plan One -- a 1,970-square-foot, single-story design with three bedrooms, up to three baths and a three-car garage.

The Puchalas share their home with his mother, Evelyn Puchala, and Wrinkles, their pug.

"Mom has plenty of space. She has the front bedroom and bathroom all to herself," Larry Puchala said. "We were sold on this floor plan from the minute we opened the front door of the model home. It's very open and there's a large living area that flows right into the kitchen."

He said the oversized home site where he now relaxes and enjoys the mountain views is exactly what he had in mind.

"A large lot was a top priority," said Puchala, whose backyard houses a pool with waterfall and an extended covered patio. "This is the last home we'll live in and we wanted the whole nine yards. I get out of bed, jump in the pool and watch the world go by. I'd recommend this life to a lot of people."

The plan's architectural highlights include a centrally located great room, flanked by an island kitchen with family dining area on one side and a master suite on the other. The residence has a covered front entry and covered back patio. Structural variations allow for an extended back patio cover and a den in lieu of the third bedroom. Home buyers can opt for multiple fireplaces, a wet bar in the great room and bay window extensions in the master bedroom.

"I hadn't heard of William Lyon Homes before we discovered Tramonto. They certainly came through with everything we asked for along the way. A long-distance move can be complicated, but our sales agent did a great job keeping us on track," Puchala said. "The quality of the homes, the views, the community design -- it couldn't be better."

Tramonto offers four single-story floor plans ranging from 1,970 to 2,445 square feet. Homes include three-car garages and come with as many as four bedrooms and three baths. Buyers can choose from traditional or great room layouts. Based on floor plan, homes can be constructed with an optional den, office, master retreat, bonus room or secondary bedrooms suite. Prices start in the mid-$200,000s.

Homes come with interior laundries, walk-in closets, custom recessed lighting, designer-selected light fixtures and raised-panel interior doors with satin chrome levers. Selected plans feature a kitchen island workstation with expanded countertop seating. Master bath appointments include a garden tub, separate shower stall and cultured marble countertops. Some plans have sit-down vanities.

William Lyon Homes is selling three additional single-story communities at Mountain Falls. They are Entrata, Cascata Ancora and Bella Sera. Priced from the upper $100,000s, floor plans measure 1,157 to 2,897 square feet. Model home tours are available.

Homeowners have use of a community resident facility, featuring a fully equipped fitness center, resident lounge with a pool table and multi-purpose room where organized classes are held.

The facility also includes an outdoor aquatic center highlighted by a lap pool and Jacuzzi for adults, free-form family pool and splash pad with interactive play stations.

Dozens of mini parks and walking trails define the grounds. Homeowner association fees are set at less than $45 monthly.

Model homes are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Monday when they open at noon.

To visit, travel about 45 miles west on State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road) past Interstate 15. Before reaching Pahrump, turn left on Manse Road. Proceed to Hafen Ranch and turn right, then left on Lakeview to the model homes. For more information, call 775-537-1774 or visit
