Nevada Real Estate Administrator Gail Anderson has announced the appointment of Kara Jenkins as ombudsman for the Common Interest Community program.
Jenkins replaces Lindsay Waite, who retired from the position earlier this year.
As ombudsman, Jenkins will assist homeowners and homeowners' association board members in common interest communities to better understand their rights and obligations under the law and their governing documents and will offer to meet to attempt to resolve disputes filed with her office.
Jenkins has a juris doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, La.
She has held a variety of positions in the administration of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
She was most recently Southern Nevada director of the nonprofit group, Access to Healthcare Network.
"I look forward to using my experience with the law to help homeowners and board members resolve issues," Jenkins said.
"Ms. Jenkins' focus will be on resolving disputes through mediation and assisting unit owners and board members in understanding what the law as well as governing documents of an association require," Anderson said. "We are pleased to have her on board and look forward to what she will bring to the program."
Jenkins began her appointment Monday.
