Jayson and Sonia Heeks purchased a Richmond American home to accommodate their family's special needs.
"Our oldest son Tazmun is in a wheelchair, so we looked for plans that would be most convenient for him," Sonia Heeks said.
"We really liked Richmond American's Sanctuary floor plan at Cobblestone. It has a bedroom and bathroom downstairs, which was a must-have for our son. Also, there are less turns in the hallways downstairs, with a straight shot to all the base living areas and kitchen. We're so happy with the home and the way it makes our daily lives so much easier."
The Heeks moved into their new home at Cobblestone in North Las Vegas at the end of March. The family also includes Trever, 7, and Gavin, 4, in addition to Tazmun, who is 10.
The Heeks, who had never owned a new home before, praised the builder.
"It brought tears to my eyes when I saw all the adjustments Richmond American made to make it easier to maneuver our son's wheelchair around the house," she said. "It made a world of difference. They widened the doorways downstairs, lowered the threshold and even tiled his bedroom floor."
The 2,550-square-foot Sanctuary stands at two stories and features four to five bedrooms as well as 2 1/2 to three baths. The main level includes a den that can be selected as an optional fifth bedroom with full bath or a storage area.
The entry leads into a formal living room and dining room, while the family room, kitchen and nook feature an open layout.
The kitchen offers an optional center island. Prices start from the $320,000s.
Prospective buyers can stop by Cobblestone at Laurel Canyon and tour seven models. To visit, take Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway to the Losee Road exit and go south. Turn left on Ann Road, right on Walnut Road and left on Carla Ann Road. Model homes are open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Friday when they open at noon. Cobblestone at Laurel Canyon offers seven single- and two-story floor plans priced from the $240,000s.
In addition to the Sanctuary, two floor plans are from the Haven Collection, featuring open layouts with the kitchen flowing into the family room. Priced from the $310,000s, the Solitude is a 2,400-square-foot home with a loft at the center of the second floor. An optional fifth bedroom is available in lieu of the loft, and an optional bonus room is available in place of two secondary bedrooms.
The two-story Hideaway offers about 2,300 square feet with the living and dining area separate from the family room, kitchen and nook.
