Shea Homes at Ardiente offers active-adult lifestyle for retirees

Shea Homes at Ardiente, an age-qualified lifestyle community in North Las Vegas, offers its SheaXero - No Electric Bill Home to help those 55 and older save money, said Ryan Smith, sales manager at Ardiente.

"Paul and Lavone Oldale just spent three weeks in South Africa. And before that, Paul donned his snowshoes in Antarctica," Smith said. "The Oldales have been gallivanting around the world from one exotic place to another, and not having to pay an electric bill every month certainly helps them feel confident indulging in these amazing trips."

Smith said, Ardiente currently isn't charging extra for solar power system.

He said through the home's construction, solar power and 14 energy-efficient features, including Whirlpool Energy Star appliances, Trane energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, low-emissivity-3 vinyl windows, cathedralized attic insulation and blown-in insulation, SheaXero can offset energy consumption based on a typical household of two.

"I have friends that pay up to $400 in the summer for their electric bill, and mine has been next to nothing," Paul Oldale said. "For anyone who's on the fence about getting a SheaXero home, I'd tell them to look and consider long and hard before living anywhere else. That is huge savings."

The Oldales used to own an expansive property in the rural Sierra Nevadas, but now they said they enjoy the community's proximity to "modern conveniences."

"When we lived in the mountains, we were 65 miles away from stores or anything else. As we started getting older, we figured it was time to move closer to the city and be near our kids. Ardiente was the only community we visited, and we fell in love at first sight. Saving money on the utility bill is really what drew us in. Everywhere else you look people are paying a lot more."

SheaXero homes start in the $150,000s and the builder's Vacation Series homes start in the $120,000s,

Next on the Oldales' traveling itinerary is a month-long trip in the Caribbean, followed by an adventurous excursion traipsing through the Amazon.

"These are the exciting ways our members are living their lives, and I encourage everyone to make this year the year to do the things you love," Smith said. "There is no better time to start living your life to the fullest, and Ardiente is designed to help you do just that."

At the hub of the gated community is a private 20,000-square-foot clubhouse featuring two resort-style pools, fitness center, group exercise studio and access to miles of walking trails.
