Summerlin offers activities

Summerlin, Las Vegas’ largest master-planned community is designed for residents to enjoy their homes, neighborhoods and each other. A major perk to living in Summerlin is the long list of resident-only events.

Year-round, the Summerlin Council hosts events, including Summerlin Circus, Firecracker 5K run, Strawberry Festival, Friday Nite Live concert series and the Pumpkin Festival. Many of the events are free and are hosted at the community’s parks or on the trails connecting the villages.

“A big part of the Summerlin lifestyle is outdoor living and community engagement,” said Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association that oversees recreational, athletic and social programming.

“Summerlin events help to foster relationships among neighbors and builds a stronger sense of community. They become annual traditions for many families and are highly anticipated by those who live here.”

The Summerlin Council functions similar to a municipal parks and recreation department engaged in developing and overseeing programs that enhance quality of life.

The annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade, the only public event planned by the council is enjoyed not only by residents but the entire Las Vegas Valley. Each year, more than 35,000 people attend the parade that has become the valley’s largest July 4th parade.

The area’s three community centers offer resident-only classes for children and adults including yoga, swim lessons, martial arts, jewelry making, CPR training and Spanish lessons.
