The 77,100-acre park is located about 70 miles east of Ely, Nev., on U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 487. Three campgrounds are located along the scenic drive. The Wheeler Peak Campground at 10,000 feet offers 37 sites, the Upper Lehman Creek Campground has 24 spaces and the Lower Lehman Campground has 11 spaces.

There are eight year-round campgrounds with 1,334 campsites at Lake Mead, located at Boulder Basin, Lake Mohave, Overton Arm and East Lake Mead. RV campgrounds with hookups are available, too. The campgrounds offer water faucets, restrooms, picnic tables and barbecue grills.
Campsites are $10 per night ($5 with Golden Age and Golden Access passes) and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Group campsites are available at the Boulder Campground; reservations are required.

About 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston has 6 campgrounds open from May 1 through mid-September. Camping is limited to 5 days and is $10 per night for single-family sites and $20 for multi-family sites. Campground facilities include restrooms, water faucets, picnic tables and either a barbecue grill or open fire ring. Campsites are available on a first-come, first served basis, but some sites may be reserved by groups.

13-Mile Campground is about 2 miles east of the Visitor Center on State Route 159. The campground has barbecue grills, picnic tables, trash collection, water tank and pit toilets. Access road is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fees are $10 per night; 50 percent discount for Golden Age and Golden Access card holders.
Group sites are available for $25 per night; reservations are required. A limited number of camp sites are open to RVs and trailers; no hookups or dump sites. Backcountry camping is allowed above 5,000 feet with access by Rocky Gap Road. Permits are required; call (702) 515-5050.

Valley of Fire State Parkhas 52 campsites with restrooms, water faucets, hot showers and picnic tables. They are available year-round and cost $7 per night. The park is a 45-minute drive from Las Vegas via Interstate 15 or an hour's drive by Northshore Road along Lake Mead. The best time to visit is late September through early June, as summer temperatures are ferocious.
