Another quarterback commits to UNLV

UNLV picked up another commitment from a quarterback, with Kevin Thomson, from Auburn Riverside High School near Tacoma, Wash., saying he would play for the Rebels.

They previously snagged a committed from junior college quarterback Blake Decker.

Thomson (6 feet 3 inches, 180 pounds) said he was swayed after watching UNLV beat San Diego State 45-19 on Nov. 30 at Sam Boyd Stadium.

“My first impression watching them was they played a great game, and the offense was real good,” Thomson said Wednesday. “That’s the first thing that stood out. I feel like I could really fit in. I went to campus the next day, and I had a good feeling and I like how the program is going.”

He played in a spread offense that was heavy on the pass, throwing for 1,656 yards and 15 touchdowns. Thomson also showed the ability to run in rushing for 553 yards and nine touchdowns.

He hopes to play right away at UNLV.

“It could be difficult,” Thomson said. “I’m not sure how it’s going to pan out. Whatever they want me to do, I’ll do.”

New Mexico State and Idaho also offered him scholarships.
