51s’ Reynolds, Taijeron selected PCL All-Stars

Matt Reynolds and Travis Taijeron will represent the 51s in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 15 at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb.

Reynolds, who plays shortstop and second base, and Taijeron, a right fielder, were among 17 players selected by the Pacific Coast League office. The other 13 PCL players were picked in balloting of league managers, general managers, media and fans.

Reynolds, 24, has played 74 games and is batting .270 with 22 doubles, five home runs, 45 RBIs and nine stolen bases. Taijeron, 26, is batting .291 with 40 RBIs and a team-high 13 home runs in 68 games.

The Triple-A All-Star Game pits the PCL against the International League and will be televised on MLB Network. A list of the PCL All-Stars is on Page 4C.

In Wednesday’s 51s game, All-Star Tacoma pitcher Forrest Snow pitched seven strong innings to guide the Rainiers to a 4-2 win over Las Vegas in Tacoma, Wash.

Snow (7-4) held the 51s (45-35) to one run on four hits and three walks and struck out six in seven innings.

Justin Ruggiano and Jesus Montero each went 2-for-3 with an RBI single for Tacoma (40-40), which had a 10-7 edge in hits.

Reynolds drove in both Las Vegas runs, with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning and a groundout in the eighth.

T.J. Rivera went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double for the 51s. He led off the game with a double but was stranded, and he led off the eighth with a triple and came home on Reynolds’ groundout.

After Reynolds’ homer cut Las Vegas’ deficit to 2-1, the Rainiers got a run in the fifth on Leon Landry’s sacrifice fly and another in the sixth on James Jones’ groundout.

51s starter Matt Bowman (5-9) gave up three runs on nine hits and two walks and struck out three in five innings.
