Castellanos’ grand slam helps 51s end 10-game losing streak

Alex Castellanos’ grand slam highlighted the 51s’ six-run sixth inning Saturday as Las Vegas halted a 10-game losing streak with a 9-4 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas in a Pacific Coast League game at Cashman Field.

The 51s (30-27) scored all six sixth-inning runs with two outs. The uprising included a pinch single by Jayce Boyd, three walks — including one with the bases loaded — and a bases-loaded hit batsman on a 1-and-2 count.

Las Vegas starter Tyler Pill (2-3) held El Paso (26-30) to one run on four hits and three walks and struck out four in six innings.

Johnny Monell hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth and totaled three RBIs. Matt Reynolds had a double and a single and scored twice. Wilfredo Tovar hit the second pitch from Chihuahuas starter Zack Segovia (1-2) for his third home run of the season.

Segovia gave up three runs on five hits and four walks and struck out one in 4 1/3 innings as El Paso lost its fourth straight.

Alex Dickerson and Casey McElroy had two hits apiece for the Chihuahuas, who were outhit 10-9.
