Here are the players to watch in 51s-Reno Aces series this week

The 51s head north Tuesday for their first series this season against the Aces. Here are five players* (four players and one thing) to watch in the series against Reno:

Braden Shipley, RHP, Reno

Shipley was the Diamondbacks No. 3 ranked prospect per Baseball America during the offseason.

But with Nos. 1 and 2 traded, he slides up the list. The righty will face Gabriel Ynoa and the 51s on Thursday in what should be a solid pitching matchup.

Shipley is 3-3 on the year with a 3.18 ERA, though he got tagged for four runs in his last start.

Matt Reynolds, INF, Las Vegas

Reynolds will rejoin the 51s from the Mets during the series.

With a logjam in the infield, Reynolds might wind up playing some left field to get at-bats. Reynolds hasn’t played outfield in a professional game but he said earlier in the season that he thinks he’d be able to handle it.

If they decide to leave Reynolds in the infield, the 51s could also opt to put T.J. Rivera in left field, which he played over the weekend.

Peter O’Brien, OF, Reno

O’Brien, another highly-ranked Diamondbacks prospect, enters Tuesday with 12 home runs, just one off the Pacific Coast League lead.

His 32 RBIs lead the Aces and his .306 batting average is second among current Aces. O’Brien was a third-round pick in 2011 and was recently sent back to Triple-A from the Diamondbacks after appearing in one game.

Duane Below, LHP, Las Vegas

Below is coming off of one of his better starts of the year, giving up just one run — zero earned — in seven innings pitched against Memphis.

He’s won his past three starts and in two of them, he’s given up no earned runs in seven innings. In addition, three of his past four outings were quality starts.

Below will take the mound on Wednesday against Kyle Drabek, a former first round pick.

51s roster moves

Keep an eye out for some roster shuffling in the next few days.

With Reynolds coming back from the Mets and Roger Bernadina expected to come off the disabled list, the 51s will have to make some moves, meaning Kyle Johnson and Niuman Romero’s days in Triple-A might be numbered unless a player has to hit the DL.

If the Mets don’t send David Wright to the disabled list when James Loney joins the roster, the 51s will likely receive either Ty Kelly or Eric Campbell, making another roster move necessary.
