Tyler Pill gets support in 51s’ victory at Tacoma
For the second straight night, the 51s got a quality outing from their starter.
This time around, though, they came up with just enough offense to support him, as Las Vegas beat Tacoma 4-3 on Saturday at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington.
Starter Tyler Pill tossed six innings and allowed three runs — two earned — despite giving up 10 hits.
Pill gave up a solo home run to D.J. Peterson in the second and Dan Vogelbach in the third before allowing an RBI single to Vogelbach an inning later.
But the 51s (60-68) rallied back an inning later, scoring on Matt Reynolds’ groundout, Brandon Nimmo’s triple and Gavin Cecchini’s double to tie the score.
With the game tied in the seventh, Nimmo came through again for the 51s, doubling in Reynolds for their first lead.
Nimmo finished 3-for-4. Cecchini, Michael Conforto and Kevin Plawecki each added two hits in the series-opening victory.

The New York Mets optioned Erik Goeddel to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday to make room for Jim Henderson, who had been with the 51s on rehab. Second baseman L.J. Mazzilli and pitcher Kevin McGowan were assigned to Double-A Binghamton to make room for T.J. Rivera and Ty Kelly, who had been sent down by the Mets.
