What to watch for on Day 8 of the NBA Summer League
The eighth day of the 2016 NBA Summer League will match losers of Wednesday’s and Thursday’s games against each other.
There will be eight games in total — four in the Thomas & Mack Center and four in the Cox Pavilion. This will be the final day that features eight games.
GAME OF THE DAY
Utah vs. Los Angeles — Provided they play, this will be fans’ last chance to see No. 2 picks D’Angelo Russell and Brandon Ingram at the tournament. The two will carry an even heavier load than before if they step on the court because of Larry Nance Jr’s wrist injury. If Russell tries to push the pace, he will have fellow Ohio State alumnus Aaron Craft in his way. Craft is averaging seven points a game in the tournament.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
*Can Jaylen Brown keep soaring higher? After a relatively quiet first two outings for the Celtics, Brown scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his third game. In his fourth, he scored 25 and had nine boards. Will he save his best for last against the Trail Blazers?
*Who will keep playing? Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons and Utah’s Trey Lyles have already sat out games this tournament. Will another team like Los Angeles be cautious with high picks like D’Angelo Russell and Brandon Ingram?
*How will Patrick McCaw finish his stint on campus? McCaw has played well with the Warriors, averaging 15.8 points on 28-for-60 shooting. He will play just his second game ever in the Cox Pavilion against the Mavericks. In his first game there Thursday he scored 28 points.
