Horse Racing: Today at Hollywood Park, June 21

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

4 Mia Lady - Showed enormous improvement in her second career start; she’ll be tough to handle with one more step in her.

6 Lakeside Bride - Did everything but win last time; she has run 8 times in the money, may have some herd mentality in her.

Long Shot - 1 Suances Pride

Race 2 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming 450,000, 2-year-olds

1 Raise the Hoof - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; he is also a first time gelding.

4 B. B.’s Bandman - FTS from Doug O’Neill; suspect he’ll have another 2-YO like I’ll Have Another or Goldencents pop.

Long Shot - 3 Snowmass Village

Race 3 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds

6 Laugh At Life - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this cozy level;p he figures to be awful tough to pass in here.

1 Too Fast to Pass - Speed and the rail are an edge in a turf sprint; he too is taking a big class drop.

Long Shot - 2 Judge Carr

Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Top Knot - Showed improvement second time out; has every right to improve again running first time with Lasix.

5 J K’s Mischief - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to compete with these.

Long Shot - 1 Elegant in Silk

Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Ismene - Logical chalk has been favored in 5-of-6 career starts; has lost a couple of tough decisions of late.

5 Belle de Lune - This one fought the jockey too hard trying to sit off a 48 4/5 half mile; sometimes just let them run a bit.

Long Shot - 1 Bench Glory

Race 6 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

3 Apollo Ten - Interesting price play has joined the Mike Machowsky barn; likes to stalk the pace and rally mid-race.

8 Raise a Secret - Exits a bullet workout for this; love the parking lot post in this elongated sprint.

Long Shot - 4 Sizzlin’ Joe

Race 7 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $65,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

3 Chosen Miracle - Draw a line thru the American in last and his PPs look good; this is a fairly easy spot to regain confidence.

2 Boat Trip - In a turf sprint you don’t want to get too far behind early; this one likes to sit and make one run.

Long Shot - 1 Coach Bob

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 Hidden Passion - Liked his win last time and returns in the same condition; speed to lead or sit close up.

5 Katy’s Kitty - Dropping in class to the lowest level of her career; key for me is Rafael Bejarano taking the call.

Long Shot - 3 Pearloftheorient

Best Bet - 4 Mia Lady (race 1)

Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$20.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Park Totals - 572/141/$884.80; Long Shots, 276/38/$434.00; Best Bets, 33/11/$49.80

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #7 Comandante (10/1) in race 7 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Arbiter ran out at Churchill Downs. Stats - 99/64/$476.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
