Diego Magdaleno wins WBO international lightweight title

Diego Magdaleno of Las Vegas dominated Jose Gonzalez on Friday, winning by technical knockout in the seventh round to capture the vacant World Boxing Organization international lightweight title in Hidalgo, Texas.

Magdaleno (28-1) rocked Gonzalez (24-2) with a hard left hook to the body in the seventh round of their 12-round main event at State Farm Arena. The punch was ruled an accidental low blow by referee Luis Pablon, and Gonzalez was given five minutes to recover.

He was unable to continue after the time had passed, and the fight ended at the 2:43 mark, giving Magdaleno his fifth straight win.

“It wasn’t a low blow,” Magdaleno said in a text message after the fight. “It was perfectly legal. He just didn’t want to take it anymore.”
